The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has a permanent e-waste bin at every one of its 50 district offices (สำนักงานเขต) and at both City Hall sites, Sao Chingcha and Din Daeng. According to the BMA's Greener Bangkok e-waste guide , the bins take all types of electrical devices, the lithium batteries used in phones, laptops, computers and ink cartridges. They do not take old CRT monitors and TVs, alkaline batteries or light bulbs. The same guide also lists the Faculty of Environment building and Supreme Complex at Kasetsart University as government drop-off points.

If you do not want to go anywhere, put small e-waste in a box, write "ฝากทิ้ง ขยะอิเล็กทรอนิกส์" ("e-waste for disposal") on it, and hand it to the Thailand Post carrier when they next deliver to your home. It is free. This runs together with AIS, and AIS's page lists what it is meant for: phones and tablets, phone batteries, chargers, earphones and other small electronics. It is not the route for a desktop tower or a monitor.

AIS's "Thais Without E-Waste" project lists more than 3,200 drop points across 76 provinces . In Bangkok these include AIS shops, many post offices, the E-Center zones of several Central shopping malls, universities, bank head offices and a number of condominium buildings. AIS accepts phones and tablets, chargers and adapters, earphones and speakers, notebook computers, mice, keyboards and hard drives, plus small items such as cameras, calculators, remote controls and landline phones. AIS also has an e-waste+ app that shows drop points near you.

True runs its own scheme at more than 400 True Shops and dtac service centres nationwide, and the True App can find the nearest one. It is aimed at mobile e-waste: old phones and tablets, chargers and USB cables, earphones, phone batteries and power banks. True says it works with SK Tes Thailand and ALL NOW Logistics to transport what it collects and recycle it properly.

Apple

If your old device is an iPhone, iPad, Mac or other Apple product, the Apple Trade In page for Thailand says Apple will recycle it free at an Apple Store if it has no trade-in value. Apple asks you to back up and erase your personal data first.

A laptop or phone that still works is worth more to a student than to a recycler. Our guide to where to donate electronics in Bangkok covers the Mirror Foundation's Computer for Children project, the BMA notebook drive for its schools and our own free device programme.

  • Phones, tablets, chargers, earphones, power banks: accepted almost everywhere: district offices, postman, AIS and True.
  • Laptops and computer parts: district offices and City Hall, AIS points (which list notebooks and hard drives), Apple for Apple machines.
  • Desktop towers, printers and larger electrical items: take them to a district office rather than a mobile shop, and call ahead for anything bulky.
  • Not accepted at the BMA bins: CRT monitors and TVs, alkaline batteries and light bulbs.
  • Swollen batteries: the BMA and AIS both advise soaking a swollen battery in water for five hours to discharge it, then wrapping it before you drop it off. Never put a damaged lithium battery in household rubbish.

  1. Back up what you want to keep: photos, documents, LINE chat history, saved passwords.
  2. Remove the SIM card and any memory card. Also check for USB sticks or external drives left plugged in.
  3. Sign out of everything: Apple ID and Find My, your Google account, Microsoft account, LINE and every banking app.
  4. Erase the device properly. Deleting files does not remove them. A factory reset helps, but as we explain in why a factory reset is not enough , it is not a guarantee, especially on older phones and laptops with spinning hard drives.
  5. If a laptop or desktop is dead, take the drive out. A machine that will not switch on can still have a perfectly readable hard drive or SSD inside. Remove it and keep it until it can be destroyed.

If you would rather not deal with any of this, our personal data wipe service will wipe or destroy the data on your old laptop, computer or phone and give you a certificate. For loose hard drives and SSDs, see our hard drive and SSD destruction service .

  • Use a licensed recycler. In Thailand, sorting and recycling electrical and electronic waste is licensed by the Department of Industrial Works, under factory types 105 (sorting) and 106 (recycling, including crushing electrical and electronic equipment). The DIW publishes a dataset of licensed type 101, 105 and 106 factories , so you can check who you are dealing with.
  • Destroy the data before the hardware leaves. A recycler's job is to recover materials, not to protect your customers' data. Every drive should be wiped or physically destroyed first.
  • Keep the evidence. Ask for a certificate listing each device or drive by serial number, plus a record of where the rest of the equipment went.

Our e-waste disposal service handles cables, monitors, keyboards, printers, network equipment and mixed electronics, and can be combined with certified data destruction so a whole office cleanout goes in one pickup. We never dump e-waste and never resell parts or devices; working items are donated and broken ones go through certified recycling. You can read where every device goes . For larger refreshes, see our IT asset disposal service.
